Photographic Alternative Processes

Girl with Tree over face on Brooks.jpg

In this workshop you will learn to see beyond the ordinary, working with models to produce unique portraits then playing in post-production with layers, texture, collage/montage.  Using old world techniques combined with contemporary digital technology, you will explore the endless possibilities to create one of a kind images. I still embrace the straight photographic image, but I was trained early in my career by the legendary Adolph “Papa” Fassbender, to experiment and see beyond the ordinary to create with the mark of an artist, and I love sharing this passion for photographic art.

THE ERNEST BROOKS FOUNDATION WORKSHOPS – Brooks’ Photo Workshops seeks to stimulate, inspire and energize students and serious amateurs alike.

 Date:  Sat., Aug 10, 2019  9am – 5pm

Cost:   $275   Breakfast snacks with coffee and catered lunch included

Equipment:    Camera, lenses and “stuff” you work with.  Tripod (optional…I find tripods inhibiting, and prefer to work with high speed ISO).  Laptop with Photoshop, archived images you might want to inquire about using or incorporate with new work, and a texture file if you have this started, and if not, you need to photograph tree bark, patterns of light on walls, rough textures of stone, crinkled paper, etc.  These will be used for compositing with digital montage.

Location:     Santa Barbara, CA  -   class held on a small scenic horse ranch.  The compound features a beautiful home, detached studio/classroom, and numerous inspiring shooting locations.
